The article was written more to point this out to people who have already suspected this, and so help reframe the debate between them on climate action away from specific technologies etc to one of psychology and society, rather than change the former people's minds - so I don't think it was a waste of time after all, just a contribution to a wider discussion. Jeremy - I assume you mean my spelling of civilisation rather than civilization - civilisation is the British spelling (and as a British writer I reserve the right to spell that way!). We have all been taught not to care about the guy next door much less a stranger in Bangladesh getting flooded out and drowned. Where you will be thwarted is that those who understand Climate Change are no more compassionate than anybody else. The majority will do nothing that does not benefit them or increase their personal status first and foremost.
