Here’s something a bit different, that a small company is doing to encourage tree planting locally, in the area that it operates. We like this idea, and wonder if other companies and businesses might do something similar to encourage the planting of orchards etc.
As we’ve said many times, its the small local actions that are going to make a difference to peoples’ lives, and each of us can make a big difference by doing what we can in small ways locally. There is no one big thing that is going to ‘save’ us from peak oil and climate change, but lots of little local actions could help us through the transition. We should have been using oil sparingly for things that actually improved life and protected our forests, seas, communities (instead of squandering it on the pursuit of empire and allowing capitalist culture to pillage our natural heritage).
We’d like to see lots of small local businesses emulating this idea or something similar, to give back to their local communities and the landbases. Or perhaps some larger companies, with a desire to do ‘good’ and help the transition away from an oil-based economy and the globalised worldview, could do something similar but on a slightly larger scale (but avoiding centralised control and mono-cultures, please, the future needs to be local, diverse and decentralised).
please let us know of anything similar happening near you….

Here in Colorado we don’t have many tress and I sure do miss them at times. Back east alot of our trees were being cut down for new malls etc, really sad. I am glad small local communities are doing things such as this.
