1 in every 100 Americans is in prison. It breaks down like this; 1 in every 36 Latino adults, 1 in 15 Black adults and 1 in 9 of Black men between the ages of 20 and 34 is currently in prison. The financial breakdown is that state governments spent $49 billion on corrections last year, up from $11 billion 20 years ago.
